The Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project will be converting Agrarian Service Centers to One-Stop- Service Centers to facilitate farming communities to maintain their productivity in cultivation during drought and floods. The objectives of the project is to provide farmers technological knowhow such as data and information related to the farming technology, weather condition, product prices, facilities available from the government agencies for the farmers, market opportunities and necessary links and imminent disaster information which might affect productivity of farmlands etc. Hence farmers who are not exposed to modern technology in our country will be exposed to digitalization to enhance their harvest.
Accordingly, the project expects to increase farmer income , improving decision-making ability among farmers on agriculture , educating farmers to utilize disseminated data and information wisely , empowering farmers who are freed from exploitation of middlemen and enhancing social status of farmers.
The project had identified vulnerable areas where farmers face immense losses of their harvest in climate disasters in districts. Accordingly he purview of the project will be operative in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Moneragala and Hambantota.
Well-equipped and fully digitalized two exemplary Agrarian Service Centers will operate as one-stop service centers in 2022 in two districts. The World Bank had funded $ 125 million on the Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project which is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture.
